Kanye West has Asperger’s. NOT! That’s how a columnist at the Houston Post tried to label the music star’s rude behavior to Taylor Swift at Sunday’s 2009 Video Music Awards produced by MTV. The downside of a term like Asperger’s becoming widely used in society is that everyone want to label everything they can’t explain as Asperger’s. Asperger’s is quickly becoming one of the most abused, misused and overused words in the English language. The news media and, especially, the entertainment media are among the worst abusers. They are too quick to bandy the term about with abandon. Asperger’s is an official medical diagnosis and it should come from a qualified team of medical professionals. So don’t believe everything you read that has the term Asperger’s attached to it. Often it has no basis in reality.
