Countdown to midterms

autumnIt’s the first full day of autumn. School is in high gear now. Midterms are just weeks away. Homecoming is on the horizon. We’ve hit the halfway point between the first day of classes and Thanksgiving break. Some students, overwhelmed by it all, are on the edge of burnout. There is help on campus. Make an appointment with your academic advisor or with the college counseling service. Having trouble with a course? Seek out help from the professor, a tutor or the academic skills center on campus. The one no-no: Doing nothing.  Because of privacy policies, most colleges do not notify parents when their children are struggling with academic or emotional issues except in special cases. So it’s important for parents to be proactive. Encourage your student to give the college written permission to share personal information with you.
